Louis Sylvester has been appointed in a newly created role as Business Improvement Lean Specialist working as part of the Transformation Team for the Auckland Council.
He joins the Auckland Council on August 25, after 11 years with the Rotorua District Council as Aquatic and Leisure Manager. Sylvester is a Kaizen practitioner and says he aims to bring with him “a strong focus and passion for creating ultimate customer value, people engagement and continuous business improvement” to his new role.
Elizabeth Holden has been appointed to the new role of Gartner head of executive programs for Australia and New Zealand.
Holden has been working as an IT leader for the past 22 years, across private and public sector organisations. She has led complex IT organisations in the telecommunications industry, and as director of information technology systems for the US Marine Corps.

Steve Hotham, former managing director of Ovum, is now CEO of the combined company. He has a new management team consisting of senior directors from the two analyst firms:Ian Charlesworth,Managing Director – IT Research; Tim Jennings, Chief Research Officer, IT; Martin Hill, Managing Director – Telecoms, Media & Entertainment Research; and Mark Newman, Chief Research Officer, Telecoms, Media & Entertainment.

John Ruthven is now chief operating officer for SAP Australia and New Zealand. Ruthven joined SAP in January as the regional lead for cloud and line of business solutions across the SAP Asia Pacific and Japan. Ruthven has been working in IT for more than 20 years. His previous roles senior vice president of international sales at Zuora and general manager of emerging markets at CA Technologies.
David Balazsy is promoted to vice president of Asia Pacific for mobile security company Good Technology. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead Asia-Pacific at such an exciting time when mobility is front of mind for almost every organisation,” says Balazsy who has also worked at CA and Marqui. Good Technology’s customers include Bank of New Zealand, Bank of Queensland, Bupa, Corrs Chambers Westgarth the Department of Environment, CUA, and Slater & Gordon.
