Symantec has invested $12 million in a new office in Kent Street, Sydney.
The office houses the vendor’s expanded security operations centre which, according to Symantec, is doubling in capacity to monitor advanced persistent threats (APTs) in the Asia Pacific region.
“We track about 4 trillion threat indicators from hundreds of millions of mobile devices, endpoints and servers across the globe and last year we identified 1 trillion security incidents,” Symantec's cyber security group vice president, Samir Kapuria, said in a statement.
According to Kapuria, the Sydney security operations centre will provide analysis, engineering/service capabilities, technical and training support in nine languages including Hindi, Cantonese, Mandarin, Indonesian, Spanish, Punjabi, Shanghainese, Japanese and English.
The company operates offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and Perth. Meanwhile in New Zealand, it has offices in Auckland and Wellington.

Kapuria added that the vendor plans to launch two managed services options in A/NZ. However, there is no time line on the rollout of these services.
“The first is a managed incident response offering, providing customers with an emergency on demand service that delivers critical capabilities, knowledge and skill sets to help customers recover from a [security] breach,” he said.
The second managed service is a security simulations platform. This is a cloud-based platform that customers can use to help staff with cyber security simulation training.
“The platform will emulate real world [security] network environments and expose participants to the reality of cyber threats, providing a new generation of cyber workforces with knowledge to address the security problems of tomorrow,” said Kapuria.
