The custom developed system aims to increase efficiency and improve safety for its drivers, while allowing consumers to track their pizza delivery in real-time.
The rollout follows a pilot program in Australia which resulted in increased revenue and fewer driver accidents for Domino’s.
“We saw an incredibly positive response to the GPS fleet management device in test markets, so rolling out the initiative nationwide was a no-brainer,” Scott Bush, general manager, Domino’s New Zealand, says in a statement released by Navman.
Previously there was an information ‘black hole’ between the pizza being completed in-store then delivered to the door. Now there is transparency for Domino’s managers and customers across the whole process.
Domino’s says it also expects to hire new staff in stores nationwide due to the popularity of the new service.

Using Wireless’ GPS fleet management technology, Domino’s store managers are able to confirm their employees are driving safely.
The system measures real-time speed against the posted speed limit, as well as harsh braking or acceleration. In the event that a driver gets into an accident or becomes the victim of a crime, GPS tracking alerts emergency personnel faster.
“Monitoring driver behaviour and providing feedback to drivers to help them improve supports us to meet our obligations as an employer, which is particularly important in the light of the changing health and safety legislation in New Zealand,” says Bush.
The GPS system integrates with the pizza ordering and making system, so completed orders get to the driver faster. The GPS system helps drivers locate the delivery point more easily, reducing time taken searching for the correct address.
Big screens show where all the drivers are and whether they are delivering, collecting money or returning. This allows the store managers to better manage the delivery process.

A Sydney based IT company, Precision Tracking, meanwhile claims it had invented the GPS technology that was deployed by Domino’s.
Asked to respond to this, Domino's, in a statement, says throughout the initial planning stages, it had conducted trials and workings with a number of GPS suppliers.
Domino’s confirms Precision Tracking was one of the suppliers being trialled and had conducted a trial of their solution in selected Domino’s stores.
During this process Domino’s found the Navman Wireless solution to be significantly superior in all areas to any other potential supplier, including Precision Tracking, the statement reads.
“The appointment of Navman Wireless as the preferred supplier was based on a number of factors, including technical capabilities, usability and price," according to the statement.
