Mighty River Power CEO Fraser Whineray says the new role is an important addition to the company’s leadership team as part of its focus on delivering customer-driven innovation.
“I am excited by the opportunity to step out of an industry I have spent a lot of time in and take on a new challenge in a new industry,” Angland tells CIO New Zealand. “The extension from a more traditional CIO role to a wider ‘Customer, Digital and Technology’ leadership role aligns nicely with my individual purpose of ‘seeing possibilities and helping to bring them to life’.”
He adds: “I am grateful to IAG for the opportunities they have been able to provide me, and feel I the capability we have built within the Technology Services team will continue to serve the organisation well in the future.”
Whineray says Angland "brings a breadth of experience in customer-led technology and a proven record of success with some of New Zealand’s biggest technology projects".

“There are strong parallels between our business and the insurance sector with customers firmly front of mind and the increasing importance of data and digital platforms to deliver value to customers,” says Whineray, in a statement.
Angland has held senior leadership positions with New Zealand’s largest insurer IAG NZ over the past decade, most recently as its CIO, overseeing the development and integration of technology platforms for some of New Zealand’s best-known insurance brands including State, AMI and NZI. Before IAG, he had worked at Tower and as a project management consultant.
Angland says having a long-term experience in a single sector has its advantages. “Having worked in the business and understanding the customer value proposition and the processes in the business gives you a far better insight into how IT can help deliver value," says Angland in an earlier interview with CIO New Zealand. "It is not IT for IT's sake."

Yahoo New Zealand appoints Arnaud Calonne as new head of sales.
Calonne will bolster the company’s presence in New Zealand, utilising the foundation products of Tumblr, Gemini and the imminent launch of Brightroll, alongside Yahoo’s InSights data offering, Yahoo NZ says in a statement.
Calonne has over 18 years experience in the digital industry, and has worked in the UK and France. Having established and sold Adrider, a social media agency in Paris Arnaud relocated to New Zealand in 2011. Other new appointments to the Yahoo NZ team are senior account manager Katerina Lysionak and account operations specialist Skipper Lomiwes.Read more:Getting real about bimodal
ProCare CEO Steve Boomert has announced the appointment of Tony Wai as chief financial officer and head of corporate services for New Zealand’s largest PHO.
“Tony has outstanding business acumen with a strong focus on technology and customer service and has previously held senior roles at Atlantis Healthcare Group, Visible Results Group, and Emerald Foods Limited,” says Boomert.
"Not only is he a highly-skilled CFO, he has strong experience in the fields of finance, ICT, HR and communications functions so he is perfectly placed to lead our newly-formed Corporate Services function.
