“We’re carrying less cash which sadly means less cash donations so charities are trying to find new ways to connect to potential donors,” says Cilla Hegarty, EasyGiving and WooHoo NZ Tax Refunds CEO.
Hegarty says this was the key driver behind the launch of EasyGiving app.
The app allows people to make a donation via their smart phones to numerous charities that have opted in to the service.
“Kiwis are a generous lot and there are so many wonderful causes out there making a difference in our communities each and every day,” says Hegarty, in a statement. “In the digital age, we have seen an opportunity to make it easier for individuals to donate to their favourite charity.”
“Smart phones are everywhere, so it seemed logical that we should design the EasyGiving app to close the gap and tap into this generosity.”
She says because WooHoo is an authorised tax agent, they are able to undertake all the paperwork for EasyGiving, store the receipts and then ensure that the appropriate donation tax credits are claimed.
“It is a very streamlined process.”
The company says the app can be used to donate to nearly 20 charities. These include Kiwis for kiwi, Lifeline, Paralympics, Plunket, Rainbow YOUTH, Save the Children, St John, Surf Life Saving New Zealand, The Asthma & Respiratory Foundation and The Neonatal Trust.
Hegarty says the app utilises a mix of smart web based mobile app technology and native app technology.
"The biggest factor was putting the end user at the heart of the app design process," says Hegarty.
“Ensuring our usability was top notch…Keeping all user experience (UX) design simple and straightforward so to ensure that the process was as easy and simple as possible for donors to use.”
