Toll Group’s former interim CIO, Carl Duckinson, is the new IT chief at the Melbourne office of global engineering and advisory company, Aurecon.
Duckinson has replaced Sean Elwick who left the company in July after almost four years in the role.
Duckinson led Toll Group’s technology transformation and had been interim CIO since March this year following the departure of John Ansley.
Aurecon’s global CFO, Andrew Muller, said that Duckinson’s proven track record as a senior IT executive in large and complex organisations – notably his skills in mapping technology strategy to business strategy and developing high performing teams – was important for Aurecon.
Duckinson said he was drawn to Aurecon because of its engineering portfolio, energetic culture and strong interest in innovation, IT and digital initiatives.
“I believe Aurecon is well advanced in understanding what digital means and how digital influences the future of engineering. The company is eager to harness the opportunities that digital disruption presents,” he said.
Aurecon said its focus on digital innovation is backed by its hiring of John McGuire as chief innovation officer in May 2015, and Dr Andrew Maher as chief digital officer in October last year in addition to the CIO role.
Maher was hired to champion the firm’s digital vision and lead a cross-organisational digital team focused on 'achieving a convergence of core advisory, engineering and delivery platform'.
“It is rare to see these three roles at these senior levels in an organisation,” said Duckinson. “My role will be to continue to support cross-border collaboration to ensure that the business is able to respond to rapid change within the energy and resources, built environment and infrastructure industries.”
Prior to his role at Toll Group, Duckinson was CIO at Australia’s largest independent gold miner, Newcrest Mining for 7 years. He also worked at Avanade and BHP.
