Website: www.fultonhogan.comFulton Hogan’s new group CIO Brian Northern, appointed in October 2011 from his role as IT&S manager for Fulton Hogan NZ, says that ICT will be used in 2012 to enable “closer alignment to the business, as well as better governance and prioritisation”. Though ICT budgets remain stable, projects and staff numbers are predicted to rise by up to 5 percent this year. Over the past 12 months, the civil contracting company dedicated significant focus to projects spanning virtualisation, cloud computing, business continuity, wireless and knowledge management. A migration from XP to Windows 7 was completed across the NZ arm of the business as well. Over the coming year, attention will be paid to social media and mobility, as new areas of focus. Mobility, in particular, will be a key area of emphasis due to the majority of staff being mobile workers within Fulton Hogan, according to Northern. “There is a real benefit in capturing information digitally from the field, which improves data accuracy and enables more timely reporting,” he says. Fulton Hogan continues to be heavily involved in the rebuild of Christchurch as a member of the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team (SCIRT), which is repairing the city’s earthquake damaged roads, water supply and wastewater systems. The SCIRT programme of projects is one of the largest and most complex civil engineering programmes of work ever undertaken in New Zealand.
