Movers and shakers: Shayne Tong is new Auckland District Health Board CIO

Shayne Tong has joined the Auckland District Health Board as CIO/Chief of Intelligence and Informatics. He replaces Linda Wakeling, who held the role for over four years. Tong was most recently CIO at Genesis Energy and before that, was GM, Group Technology and Digital at Fletcher Building.
Fronde has appointed Honourable David J. Bartlett as its new chairman. Bartlett was the Premier of the Australian State of Tasmania from 2008 until 2011. During his parliamentary career he also held the positions of Minister for Innovation, Science & Technology and Minister for Education & Skills.
Prior to entering Parliament, Bartlett had an extensive career in the information technology and telecommunications sector including roles as Chief Information Officer and Industry development specialist.
“My career to date has been focused on driving innovation, new opportunities and delivering value to the people I work with,” says Bartlett, in a statement. “Fronde offers a wonderful opportunity at the intersection of all of those things.
“Its great strength in the New Zealand market uniquely positions us to deliver expanded services and rapid growth in the Australian market and I am looking forward to guiding Fronde’s strategy in new markets and new technology platforms into the future.”
LookSee Wellington has been launched as a global talent search programme to help address the city’s IT skills shortage and position the industry for further growth.
Since the LookSee Wellington portal went live last week, there have already been in excess of 26,000 unique visits to the site, and more than 5,000 registrations of interest from tech professionals worldwide, with a significant number of these from the US, UK and Singapore. A number of these candidates currently hold senior roles at major tech brands, including Facebook, Google and Amazon.
LookSee Wellington will see 100 pre-screened IT professionals selected to come to Wellington, with their flights and accommodation paid for, for a series of pre-arranged job interviews with employers who have signed-up to be part of LookSee Wellington and have roles that match their skills.
Given the fierce competition globally for talented tech professionals, we need to be creative in attracting attention, says David Jones, General Manager at Wellington Regional Economic Development Agency (WREDA).
WREDA’s key partner in LookSee Wellington is Workhere New Zealand, which specialises in global talent attraction. They are supported by the New Zealand Immigration Service and NZTech.
Health Minister Jonathan Coleman says Canterbury clinicians have achieved one million electronic referrals.
The South Island’s Electronic Request Management System enables general practice teams to submit requests for specialist advice direct to a secure database of over 700 specialists.
“The eReferrals system, which was first launched in Canterbury in 2009, plays a key role in bringing care closer to home by making general practice the first point of contact for patients,” says Coleman.
“The eReferrals system was designed by clinicians, for clinicians, to ensure a faster, smoother and more accurate transfer of patient information,” he states. “Replacing hand-written referrals with eReferrals has also reduced inaccuracies and has saved time for clinicians.
“It’s great to see district health boards, Primary Health Organisations and providers working together.” eReferrals were launched through the South Island Alliance, a collaboration of the five South Island DHBs, with support from the Ministry of Health.
Fonterra has launched farm performance management system Agrigate, which combines the key data farmers need to make faster and smart decisions on one, easy to use online dashboard.
The online tool was developed by Fonterra Farm Source and LIC.
“Having data in one place and working in real time makes it easier to make comparisons, see trends and make better management decisions,” says LIC CEO and Agrigate Chairman Wayne McNee. “A key outcome will be enabling farmers to make the most efficient use of their resources – which is important in both tough and better times.”
A prototype of Agrigate was trialled with 70 farmers in August 2016 and feedback from this group helped to develop the tool further. Agrigate has been made for farmers in conjunction with farmers and on-going feedback will help the team develop new features that can make the tool even more useful.
