New appointments at Telecom NZ

Telecom New Zealand appoints Simon Moutter to the newly-created role of chief transformation officer, Telecom Group. Chis Quin, former Gen-i general manager New Zealand is now CEO responsible for operations of the ICT services provider across New Zealand and Australia.
Moutter has held several key executive roles in Telecom, most recently COO Business and acting COO Telecom Retail since the beginning of the year. Quin has been part of the Telecom team since 1991.

Why IT modernisation should be on your radar

If IT modernisation isn't a top priority at your organisation this year, it should be, according to a recent report from Gartner. The reason? By 2010, more than a third of all application projects will be driven by the need to deal with technology or skills obsolescence, according to the report.
Gartner defines IT modernisation as a movement that recognizes the strategies for and approaches to managing the evolution of business processes and applications, and supporting technology portfolios for optimized value, cost and risk objectives. To achieve that goal, CIOs need to address strategic planning capabilities and focus them on IT asset modernisation.

Telecom launches newly separated access network

Telecom NZ has named its newly separated access network business “Chorus”.
Chorus is headed by Mark Ratcliffe, former chief operating officer technology and enterprises of Telecom. It will be formally launched on 31 March.

He retains his role as business solution specialist/IT solutions specialist at Gen-i.

Flying Kiwis named

Endace has won the Supreme Award and the Rakon Deal Award at the recent PricewaterhouseCoopers New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards held in Wellington. The theme for this year is “Kiwis can fly”.
Judges commented that Endace, which leads in the network traffic monitoring technology space, continues to thrive, achieve, and to boldly venture where few New Zealand companies haven’t even thought of going. “An international exporter since day one, Endace stood out this year with its strong combination of product, market and business leadership," the judges noted.

NZ Hi-Tech Awards finalists announced

The names of the 32 finalists in the PricewaterhouseCoopers New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards 2007 have been released, with the winner to be revealed at a Gala award on November 3 in Wellington.
The awards recognise the leading entrepreneurs and innovators from the information and communications technology sector. Previous winners include Navman, Rakon, Endace Measurement Systems and Pulse Data.
