Commonwealth Bank rolls out iPhone app

The Commonwealth Bank has launched a new mobile app which allows users to transfer funds to friends via their Facebook accounts or mobile device.
Speaking at the launch of Kaching today, group executive enterprise services CIO, Michael Harte, said the app, at this stage only developed for the iPhone, is a continuation of the bank’s commitment to providing services in real time and to its mobile audience.

Cloud computing ‘number two’ priority for CIOs

A majority of Australian CIOs are moving towards the cloud at a rapid rate, with cost effectiveness and reduced infrastructure being top-of-mind for IT leaders looking at SaaS.
IDC released its latest VMware-sponsored cloud computing research in Sydney last week. VMware managing director, Paul Harapin, said the survey results indicated flexibility was a key reason CIOs were looking at cloud.

Government should use cloud to reduce IT costs

Governments should cut costs in the face of uncertain economic conditions with the use of public cloud services being hailed as a starting point for CIOs.
Research firm Gartner has compiled a list of cost cutting ideas for government CIOs with vice president and senior analyst Andrea Di Maio saying further cost savings must be made.

70 per cent of CIOs say GFC effects have passed

A survey of some 400 CIOs across the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region indicates that while 70 per cent feel the effects of the GFC have passed, an average 2.3 per cent budget increase will take place in these organisations.
Vice president of research at IDC Australia, Tim Dillon, addressed more than 200 CIOs at the CIO Summit 2010 in Sydney, where he revealed the results of IDC's Forecast for Management Survey.
