A matter of life and death?

There's something about a 100-knot wind and a temperature of minus 50 degrees that really helps to focus the mind on what's important. When you're thousands of kilometres from the nearest town and isolated by extreme weather for up to eight months at a time, ensuring you have the equipment and supplies needed to sustain life takes on a priority all of its own.
At New Zealand's Scott Base, perfecting such logistics is literally a matter of life and death. Should critical machinery break and spare parts not be on hand, the result can be disaster.
