CIO50: New Zealand’s most innovative CIOs

Welcome to the annual CIO50 list where CIO New Zealand recognises the top 50 senior technology executives who are driving innovation and influencing rapid change across their organisations.

This is the first year we are holding CIO50 in New Zealand. The research is held in conjunction with CIO50 in Australia. Together, the executives in these lists will comprise the first batch of CIO100 ANZ leaders.

We’ve simplified the process of nominating this year by reducing the number of questions nominees and their nominators are required to answer. This year’s CIO50 will be judged based on the responses provided by entrants under two core pillars: Business Innovation and Leadership.

We understand that not every tech chief is engaged in delivering a transformational programme all the time. This is why we are asking entrants to describe real innovations – from a small project or programme to a large initiative - that have had a positive impact on their businesses.

We wish nominees the very best of luck, whether you are nominating for the first time or you are coming back again this year.

Steps and procedures

So, let’s get started. To self-nominate or nominate on behalf of someone else, please download the  questionnaire as a Word document and return it to

Nominations are open from Monday, 24 September and will close on 17 December.

All nominations will be reviewed by our CIO50 judging panel, who will rate each section of the questionnaire to determine the final list.

These responses will also form the basis of written profiles of our 50 technology chiefs, which will be revealed at a breakfast forum in Auckland on March 27, and also in Wellington on March 28, 2019.

The profiles will be written by an editorial team led by CIO New Zealand editor Divina Paredes.
