Nallawilli Technology and CommuniCloud Partner with Polycom to Extend Community Services Across Australia
SYDNEY – Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM) has announced its partnership with leading collaboration services providers, Nallawilli Technology and CommuniCloud as part of the Community Connect program. Community Connect is an initiative designed to close the digital and social divide by bringing services such as healthcare and education to Indigenous and socially disadvantaged communities throughout Australia using the latest collaboration technologies.
Community Connect aims to empower communities by taking a holistic approach to improve social inclusion and participation even in the most remote locations. More specifically, it seeks to facilitate a central place for all members of the community, including local government agencies, community organisations, as well as the private sector, to connect via collaboration solutions such as secure video, web and audio conferencing technology to provide better access to services such as:
• Health services, including child and adolescent services
• Domestic and family violence support services
• Mental health services
• Employment training
Community Connect is the brainchild of CommuniCloud, a leading collaboration services provider, supported by Nallawilli Technology, a Supply Nation certified business that embraces supplier diversity in Australia and is led by Roderick McLeod. McLeod is a descendent of the Yatemetung and Ngarrindjeri Nations and is the custodian of the name Nallawilli, which means to ‘sit down and listen to one another.’ His passion for community and technology led him to champion Community Connect.
“Indigenous and socially disadvantaged groups in Australia have traditionally fought significant geographic and economic boundaries to obtain the services they need,” said Roderick McLeod, CEO of Nallawilli Technology. “We are fortunate enough to be at a point where the technology and infrastructure exists to overcome those boundaries and provide services wherever they are needed, using remote connections. Many pieces of the puzzle already exist in the form of service organisations, government support and the technology itself. Community Connect was created to put those pieces together and fill in the gaps to close the social divide.”
Collaboration Technology is Critical Link to Services
In order to facilitate ease of access to these much needed services, Community Connect will invest in existing infrastructure such as community health centres, education institutions and other community organisations by linking them using leading collaboration technology from Nallawilli Technology, CommuniCloud, and Polycom. Community members can also connect using existing technology available to them such as PCs, laptops, tablets or smartphones.
Other program partners involved in the Community Connect initiative will have access to cloud-based video enabled virtual meeting rooms built by CommuniCloud on Polycom architecture. Polycom video endpoints will also provide a valuable link in bringing the community together and bridging gaps through collaborative connections..
In addition to bringing critical services to those communities that need it most, this will also help non-profit, government, and service organisations become more efficient, extending the reach of their limited budgets and increasing their ability to impact Australian communities more effectively.
“This is truly an incredible opportunity to impact the lives of individuals in Indigenous and socially disadvantaged communities across an entire continent,” said Tony Simonsen, Managing Director, Polycom ANZ. “Most of the assets needed to deliver services to those communities already exist. It’s simply a matter of bringing all the parties together to ‘sit down and listen to one another’ and we are honoured that Polycom can play a role in making that happen. Our partnership with CommuniCloud and Nallawailli is a great example of how powerful technology and face-to-face collaboration can be in bringing real benefits to people and communities, no matter where they are located.”
Nationwide coverage and impact
Through the collective power of Polycom, CommuniCloud and Nallawilli, together with their existing partner and customer networks, Community Connect is able to achieve true national reach. Organisations within those networks can make their existing collaboration solutions (used for everyday business activities) available to program participants to help give all community members and organisations access to the technology they need. This exponentially increases the potential impact of the program while also giving other members of the community a chance to give back at no additional cost to their business.
“Community Connect is a powerful program designed to save lives. By improving the quality of life of disadvantaged groups, extending their life expectancy, protecting children from harm, improving education levels, helping find people jobs, and improving digital and health literacy, this program can be a real impetus for change,” said Glenn Makowski, (CTO) at CommuniCloud. “Ultimately, we are building communities for our future. We will take this initiative to every pocket and corner of Australia where there is a network connection, and drive real outcomes for real people who are disadvantaged.”
