  • Kiwi Datacom scores Australian government datacentre deal

    New Zealand-based Datacom has been selected as one of five initial panel providers for the Australian government’s datacentre work.
    The panel will be in place for the next five years and will provide datacentre services to Australian Government FAM agencies, along with any other federal or state government organisations that wish to take advantage of the deal.
    “Datacom was delighted to help with the implementation of the Australian Government's 2010-2025 Datacentre Strategy. As one of the largest Australasian IT services companies and with eight Datacentre in the region, Datacom is well positioned to deliver quality services to subscribers of this new panel. We have a very strong 45+ year history of providing mission critical services to our Clients in the BPO, Systems Management and Application development space. It is encouraging to have the endorsement of the Australian Government in this very critical Datacentre technology area,” says Lisa Thorburn, Datacom’s ACT director.
    With over 1200 staff in Australia and 3500 in the region, Datacom has revenues in excess of AU$560 million. The company was founded in New Zealand in 1965 and established its presence in Australia in 1992.
    “Our recent growth to more than 70 staff in Canberra has meant that Datacom will soon be moving to new, larger premises on Northbourne Avenue, enabling better support for our clients” adds Thorburn.

  • LINZ picks Datacom as key IT services supplier

    Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) has selected Datacom to deliver its outsourced IT services from April 2011.
    The news comes as LINZ announces its appointment of Russell Turner of MetService, as its chief information officer starting in the New Year.

  • Ladd steps up as Datacom CEO

    Datacom director Jonathan Ladd has been appointed Datacom Group CEO following the recent sudden death of former CEO Michael Browne.
    Ladd is based in Sydney and has been a director at Datacom for four years. The company says he worked closely with Browne on many aspects of the company's development.

  • Datacom chief dies suddenly

    Michael Browne, who was last month promoted to become Datacom's group chief executive, has died as the result of a heart attack.
    The company confirms Browne, who was 46, died on Saturday.

  • Datacom NZ posts 7.3 percent revenue gain

    Datacom has grown its year on year revenue and profit in ANZ and Asia for the year ended 31 March, with a 9.5 increase in operating revenue for the group and a 13.8 percent increase in net profit after tax. The increases brought revenue to $667 million and profit to $30.2 million.
    The local business posted revenue of $295 million, a jump of 7.3 percent on last year, while Australia/Asia grew 11.4 percent to $372 million.

    Datacom gets the 2010 PricewaterhouseCoopers Company of the Year Award at the New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards.
    The judges described Datacom as “a company which over many years had thought deeply and carefully about its business model and customers. Its size, consistent growth and very significant offshore presence put Datacom in a class of its own. It’s the largest New Zealand-owned company in the sector, and a revenue and profit machine.”

    The NZ-Australia Investment Forum this month was told there is a new breed of entrepreneurs that is not well understood and not well served but whose contribution to the economy could be tremendous.
